Software Development Engineer, Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)

Amazon EKS is a team of AWS engineers that are building a core set of services to enable, simplify, and accelerate our customers' ability to build and run Kubernetes at scale on AWS.

Given the massive scale and customer demand on Amazon EKS, our tenet is to contribute upstream to strengthen the design, scale, security and stability of the Kubernetes and etcd projects and ultimately Amazon EKS.

You will be part of a customer-obsessed team, focused on improving the experience of operating Kubernetes applications on EKS. You will develop services, internal and open-source tools, and preach best-practices to our customers. You will work directly with customers, understand their challenges and build solutions that help all customers.

Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer in the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) team you will help us deliver the mission of making AWS the best place to run containers. At Amazon EKS, we are building a core set of services that allow our customers to create and use Kubernetes at scale. You will be part of an exceptional team moving the needle towards making containers as the next generation compute platform. This is an opportunity to operate and engineer systems on a massive scale, and to gain top-notch experience in cloud computing.

We are looking for engineers on our Customer Success team that want to take on the challenge of running the largest Kubernetes clusters in the world. You will work with the Kubernetes community to strengthen the design, scale, security and stability of Kubernetes, and ultimately deliver delightful experience to EKS customers. You will be solving challenging technical problems, often ones not solved before, alongside with peers with remarkable technical expertise. The solutions you build will be high impact and rolled out to our large customer base across the world. In this role, you will have significant input in defining our strategy, shaping our product, driving our architecture and inculcating best engineering practices in the team. Some things you'll do here

- Collaborate with the community to integrate AWS services with Kubernetes

- Maintain upstream projects related to Amazon EKS, and Kubernetes

- Work with some of the largest EKS customers

- Recommend architectural improvements to Kubernetes

- Expand upstream test coverage for Kubernetes on AWS and EKS

- Work on large scale problems across Kubernetes domains

- Incubate revolutionary ideas that benefit Kubernetes and Amazon EKS

- Troubleshoot and fix bugs reported by customers

- Mentor junior engineers on design and coding best practices

- Represent AWS technical chops in conferences

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
