The Safety and Compliance (S&C) organization within Amazon Fulfillment Technology builds and operates technologies that ensure the safety and compliance for our customers, associates, carriers and selling partners throughout their experience on Amazon. We are constantly innovating in the ways we can automate and accelerate the safety and compliance systems at Amazon. Millions of products are listed on Amazon worldwide which are sourced from vendors, manufacturers and suppliers in a global supply chain. With this scale and growth of Amazon, our mission is to ensure that each and every product meets the safety, regulatory and compliance standards to protect our customers, business partners, transportation systems and environment. We build Amazon scale real-time decisioning systems that are powered by Machine Learning and Big Data to protect our customers from illegal, dangerous and unsafe products. Building these solutions as extensible platforms that cater to the diverse and evolving product categories, suppliers and regulations is an added challenge. We use Large Scale Distributed Processing, OO technologies, Big Data, OCR, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Risk Modeling on AWS Technologies to solve the some of the most complex problems to protect and delight our customers.

- Participate in the design, implementation, and deployment of successful internet-scale systems and services in support of our business operations and the businesses they support.

- Participate in the definition of secure, scalable, and low-latency services and efficient physical processes.

- Work with cross-functional teams delivering on demanding projects.

- Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions

- Understand system interdependencies and limitations.

- Share knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices.

A day in the life

As an SDE in the Safety and Compliance organization, you will play a critical role in achieving our Amazon leadership principles 'Strive to be the Earth's Best Employer' and 'Success and Scale Bring Broad Responsibility' by helping deliver a world-class systems that ensure safe and compliant processing of inventory through their lifecycle at Amazon. Our systems are cloud native AWS enterprise web applications supporting a large global user base. Our organization is comprised of multiple teams each responsible for supporting and delivering key products. Our engineer teams are agile based, supported by agile ceremonies (daily start-up, grooming, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives).

We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.

AFT Safety and Compliance

We empower Amazon businesses to define and implement regulatory and operational standards, measure compliance with those requirements, and quantify potential risks through our centralized and closed loop systems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
