Amazon Devices is building products to enable new forms of ambient computing, and we are looking for skilled and passionate engineers to join our world-class, growing team.

As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of engineers to develop production software for new hardware products. Responsibilities include addressing customer pain points, setting priorities, and driving the development and deployment of new technology. Familiarity with embedded systems and on-edge processing is required.

This is a greenfield development effort, where you will need to define architecture, drive best engineering practices, and cultivate a new team. You must be prepared to deal with ambiguity and be ready to learn as you go. You will have the opportunity to influence product decisions and direction that will impact millions of customers.

A successful candidate will have an established background in working with embedded devices, C++/Linux, a strong technical ability, demonstrated experience in people management, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

Key job responsibilities

- Managing the day-to-day activities of the software team and providing technical and scientific guidance

- Developing technical vision and roadmaps for new initiatives and conducting strategic planning and project management

- Communicating effectively with senior management as well as with colleagues from research teams, software engineering teams, and other technical and business teams

- Building strong relationship and collaborating with other teams to deliver solutions effectively

- Hiring, coaching and developing world-class engineers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

- Experience building hardware products and developing for embedded systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
