Looking for huge scale with Amazon wide impact? The Media Experience Metadata team owns the services that vend information about tens of billions of media assets, including nearly every image, video, and other media asset that Amazon customers see. We're looking for a talented Software Development Manager to build the next generation of Amazon's largest digital asset management system, helping tens of thousands of Amazonians provide our customers with the best shopping experience.

In this role, you will build a world-class team of software engineers and technical leaders to vastly extend our metadata capabilities. Your customers are tens of thousands of content creators, computer vision scientists, and engineering teams across Amazon, who build everything from Amazon's mobile and web retail experiences, to Alexa devices, digital products like Prime Video, and even subsidiaries like IMDb. You will collaborate with leaders around the company to understand complex business and technical requirements and then innovate on their behalf to empower them in ways they didn't know were possible. Your systems will support thousands of both technical and non-technical customers. You will measure and relentlessly improve system reliability and performance.

Key job responsibilities

- Be a great people manager. Building, motivating, and growing the careers of a diverse team of Software Development Engineers is the most important part of this role. Celebrate both individual and team wins.

- Technical leadership. Lead your team to evolve your systems to meet Amazon's growing scale without incurring technical debt. Participate in architectural design reviews and hold a high bar for quality, maintainability, and cost of ownership.

- Create and deliver on a roadmap that delights your customers. Work with customers to understand their asset metadata needs. Help your team identify technical and product requirements and priorities. Use your project management skills to incrementally deliver on your roadmap and cross-team initiatives.

- Operational excellence. Conduct regular deep-dives into your systems to ensure they are kept up to date with security and operational readiness best practices. Take part in troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.

About the team

If you ever wondered who is behind all the images on Amazon retail website - it's us. Media Experience is Amazon's largest asset management system, providing an end-to-end pipeline for uploading, managing, and delivering digital media assets, such as images, JavaScript, videos, and documents, for over 3K teams across Amazon. Your charter will be to build technologies that bridge the gap between content creators and experience builders, enabling them to choose the assets that will provide Amazon's customers with the best shopping experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
