Key job responsibilities

* Thinking big and working with executive leadership and business stakeholders to define strategy and roadmap.

* Management and execution against roadmap, project plans and delivery commitments

* Owning all metrics around initiative goals you will define. We make decisions based on data.

* Responsible for the overall systems development life cycle

* Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team

* Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team

* Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach

* Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management

A day in the life

As a manager on the team, you will lead a multi-role engineering team and guide them to build software platforms and features that enables millions of Amazon customers worldwide to discover products that match their shopping intent throughout their shopping journey. You will delight customers by personalizing their shopping experiences, guiding them from discovery through purchase. Additionally, you will enable 45+ teams across the company by building services that personalize the shopping experience for our customers.

The Discover Innovation team is dedicated to assisting customers in fulfilling their shopping missions and empowering other Amazon teams by leveraging our deep understanding of customer intent. Our vision for Intent-Aware Amazon aims for personalized experiences to become a cornerstone for customers, alongside Earth's largest selection, competitive prices, and swift, free shipping. In tailoring the shopping experience to each customer's intent, we envision operating seamlessly across Amazon as a talented personal shopping assistant - a partner that is trusted, knowledgeable, and understands your unique preferences.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
