Lead a team of builders to rapidly deliver delightful and innovative shopping experiences for Amazon customers everywhere. You will work directly with design and product leaders to design, test, and deliver new user interfaces and interactions that improve the shopping experience.

Key job responsibilities

As the Software Development Manager for the Shopping Design Tech team, you will:

- Manage and develop a highly skilled team of engineers and design technologists, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence

- Drive the team's vision to build the front-end for the world's best customer shopping experience, anchoring on principles of experimentation, design fidelity, and learning from customers

- Prioritize and execute on an ambitious roadmap, working closely with design, product, and engineering leaders to translate business needs into impactful plans

- Champion the team's work, serving as a technical leader and subject matter expert while effectively communicating progress and collaborating cross-functionally

- Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance tools, and drive knowledge-sharing to increase the team's efficiency and impact

- Ensure the team's work maintains the highest standards of quality, scalability, and adherence to operational excellence

A day in the life

As the Software Development Manager for the Shopping Design Tech team, every day revolves around ensuring your team can efficiently deliver high-quality, innovative shopping experiences for Amazon customers.

You monitor and improve operational excellence mechanisms to maintain the health and reliability of your team's systems. You dive deep to provide technical guidance, answer complex questions, and help unblock engineers.

Collaborating closely with product and design partners, you lead sprint planning, manage exception requests, and facilitate technical document reviews to keep your team's projects on track. You predict and triage defects, working to develop hands-free auditing mechanisms.

Beyond the day-to-day, you're constantly thinking like a designer, raising the bar on UI quality and fidelity. You work to create technical and cultural systems that empower your engineers to thrive, maintaining strong communication with leadership across design, product, and engineering.

About the team

The mission of the Shopping Design Tech team is to build magical shopping experiences that customers use daily and love. We are part of a group that includes product and design leaders who design the Amazon shopping experience for customers. We build the features that make it easy for customers to discover, evaluate, and transact on Amazon. We enable Amazon builders with design patterns, systems, tools, and best practices to design a cohesive and delightful shopping CX.

Your stakeholders include design, product, and engineering leadership, all of whom rely on your expertise and guidance to deliver exceptional shopping experiences for Amazon customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
