POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Solid Waste Paint Shop Supervisor, an Equipment Operator will be responsible for the operation of assigned container service Truck, various forklifts, and other trucks, along with the repair and maintenance of containers as necessary. The equipment operator may also be indirectly responsible for up to two other persons as assigned by the paint shop supervisor.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The operator must be able to operate solid waste container trucks, forklifts, arc welders, acetylene cutting torch and equipment in varied weather and traffic conditions. The operator should have a basic understanding of the hydraulic controls on the solid waste container truck, forklift, and equipment. Should be knowledgeable of hand tools, grinders, airless paint guns/sprayers, metal shear machine, post hole augers and small power tools.

Requires a variety of standing and/or sitting while operating solid waste equipment, based upon equipment assignment, for long periods of time. Requires a variety of sitting and/or standing while working, based on assignment, for long periods of time. Requires turning over heavy containers and lifting materials of up to 75 pounds and could involve lifting of over 100 pounds with assistance, ability to pull with a force of at least 94 pounds and throwing materials overhead and shoveling or raking materials for dumpster site locations. Operating the equipment occurs year-round, in all types of weather. Subject to call back to work at night, weekends, and holidays for setting up and/or moving dumpsters. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers. Regular and punctual attendance is required of this job.
EDUCATION TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED Required. Possession of a forklift operators' certificate is preferred. Technical school courses related to welding, welding certificate or 1 to 2 years welding or container maintenance is preferred. Possession of at least a valid Texas Class B CDL drivers license is required or ability to obtain within 120 days of appointment. The ability to prepare daily reports, read maps, route printouts, or instructions is required.

- The operator shall inspect, wash, keep clean (interior and exterior), and perform minor repairs to equipment as assigned.
- The operator shall be required to perform equipment inspections and complete daily task reports.
- Performs repairs to solid waste containers, and other duties as assigned. Must have knowledge of city streets.
