The City of Fayetteville's Solid Waste Division of Public Services is currently recruiting for a Solid Waste Supervisor to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing solid waste collections within the Solid Waste division of the Public Services department; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in solid waste collection including one year of lead or supervisory responsibility.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of a class B CDL and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred:
Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Certification in Solid Waste Collection Systems.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, background check and driving history check.

- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff; maintain records of attendance and work hours; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline procedures.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing solid waste collection and disposal services; implement policies and procedures.
- Ensure the adherence to safe work practices by sanitation personnel.
- Supervise and coordinate the preventative maintenance program for solid waste vehicles and equipment; operate and maintain vehicles according to established guidelines.
- Inspect field operations on a routine basis; review problems, concerns or employee issues; make appropriate recommendations; make route adjustments as needed to complete daily routes.
- Approve work requests, assign work orders, review completed work and close work orders using work order software via computers and hand-held devices.
- Review truck locations, progress and route completions using computer software via desktop computer and hand-held devices.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public regarding solid waste collection operations and activities; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
- Investigate and initiate special service procedures; determine type of service needed for residential, business, private and the handicapped.
- Collect data and prepare various reports on solid waste collection operations and activities.
