Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

In collaboration with the Department Manager is responsible for unit operations. Participates in action plan and initiatives for team member engagement, physician alignment, and patient satisfaction. Promotes the delivery of safe, quality care according to current evidence-based standards of practice. Promotes and supports shared decision making. Assists in managing unit resources including scheduling of staff and provision of necessary equipment and tools. Participates in monitoring, maintaining and improving nursing sensitive indicators, core measures, and other identified outcome measures.

Essential Duties:

  • Promotes/supports shared decision making by empowering team members through delegation of clear responsibility.
  • Assists in recruitment, interviewing, hiring recommendations, selection, and retention of personnel in collaboration with Manager.
  • Supports adequate orientation, education, credentialing, and professional development for team members.
  • Responsible for annual competency/performance evaluation, recognition, coaching and discipline of direct reports.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of action plans for performance improvement.
  • Promotes communication and conflict resolution with patients and staff.
  • Coordinates and ensures adequate, competent staffing and scheduling of team members in a safe, cost-effective manner, according to guidelines.
  • Supports and models evidence-based practice and contributes ideas to it.
  • Recommends, develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures; Assists in revising work systems and procedures as necessary to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
  • Evaluates quality, outcomes, and appropriateness of care delivery and accepts accountability of services provided.
  • Assures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards and hospital policies in reference to patient care.
  • Adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Assists in development and management of budget in defined area of responsibility.
  • Clinical expert throughout department in absence of Manager.
  • Provides and documents patient care as necessary; All essential duties as listed in Clinical RN Job Description.
  • Identifies and seeks professional learning opportunities and promotes opportunities for learning for team members in collaboration with the Manager.
  • Supports a safe, learning environment that is open and respectful, focusing on high quality patient care.
  • Develops and maintains a professional relationship with members of the health care team, patients, and patient's support system.
  • Serves as a role model for mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives for the organization.
  • Communicates with Director/Manager, as appropriate, regarding issues identified while on duty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

General Requirements

• Current State of Michigan license as a Registered Nurse • Basic Life Support (BLS) • Oncology Nursing Certification preferred • Current ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate preferred

Work Experience

• Minimum two years experience in oncology; outpatient preferred. • Clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to manage department. • Leadership or charge nurse experience preferred

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing • Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Interpersonal skills for effective communication. • Computer literate. • Accountable for professional development and maintenance of competencies • Excellent attendance • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
