Position Summary

Build the standard practices, retail communication and procedures that facilitate the execution of our merchandising strategy at retail. Contribute to the creation of merchandising programs and initiatives that deliver on our strategy and drive sales and market share. Reinforce the connection between strategy and execution by being a strong two-way communicator. Contribute to the achievement of company goals and objectives as part of the Merchandising department leadership team.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for implementation of new department merchandising programs and procedures.
  • Build effective communication of department merchandising programs, procedures, and product information.
  • Collaborate with Retail Services to facilitate Business Process Change model.
  • Influence and support the creation of programs and initiatives that deliver on our strategy and drive sales and market share.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Category, Marketing, Retail Services, Retail Operations and other areas of the organization as needed for the development, implementation and ongoing support for all products and programs.
  • Build, update and maintain standard practice training aids.
  • Author and oversee effective communication with Retail Operations via: daily/weekly communication notes, leadership notes, seasonally focused communications, new program announcements, Voice of Retail, etc.
  • Responsible for weekly merchandising direction for sale items, along with holiday and seasonal merchandising direction.
  • Responsible for supporting DSD escalation process for relevant DSD concerns regarding product or service.
  • Review all new and remodeled store fixture prints to ensure appropriate department layout (FRESH ONLY).
  • Design new fixtures for new programs, individual business needs, etc.
  • Contribute to the set up and successful merchandising of new stores, remodels and resets.
  • Provide regular retail visits and gather insights from Field Specialists to monitor implementation of department programs, gather insights into customer's shopping experience and opportunities to improve this experience
  • Monitor industry trends in product packaging, equipment and systems and merchandising programs/processes.
  • Determine appropriate equipment and work procedures with consideration towards all government regulations, food safety, associate safety, and efficient productivity.
  • Provide daily interaction and weekly direction on prioritization of tasks to Product Specialist
  • Provide support for motivating peers and function as an effective promoter of change and growth.
  • Provide support for the implementation of a continuous improvement culture
  • Serve as a member of key teams and committees as needed
  • Responsible for the development, talent planning and performance management of self.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • 3-5 years combined experience in retail, merchandising, category, pricing, logistics, supply chain, procurement, and distribution
  • 2+ years of retail management experience required (Dept Mgr or above).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in respective discipline:
  • Fresh Categories include, but are not limited to: Produce, Seafood, HMS/Deli/Bakery
  • Center Store Categories are considered any category not listed in Fresh above
  • Thorough understanding of Standard Practices and merchandising techniques.
  • Basic professional level of knowledge for company, business and industry practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager experience
  • Relationship management experience with vendors, brokers and third party consultants
  • Negotiation experience
  • Experience with the following computer programs: SEGA, DSS, LlamaSoft, WMS, PFT, Inforem, Tableau, Revionics, MSP
