UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is hiring a Specialty Cytogenetic Technologist or Cytogenetic Histo Technologist to join our Laboratory team! This role will be scheduled for daylight shift Monday through Friday - No weekends or holidays required! We are a specialty Molecular Cytogenetic laboratory within the large full-service Anatomic Pathology Department here at UPMC Presby.

Responsibilities:
- Image captures appropriate number of cells on each case on the Department's computerized imaging system and analyzes cells for the presence of chromosomal defects.
- Cleans and maintains supplies and equipment. Monitors temperatures on lab equipment.
- Assists with the teaching and training of students and various hospital professionals.
- Prepares slides for staining procedures to ensure optimal visibility fluorescence signals
- Performs various additional testing being able to determine when specialized stains are necessary based on initial analysis.
- Analyzes fluorescence signals on the microscope or using image analysis system looking for genetic abnormalities.
- Assists supervisor with QA/QI monitoring and data collection.
- Retrieves slides to process for analysis.
- Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
- Participates in the organization and direction of ancillary work performed by support and service personnel and volunteers.
- Maintains records of stains processed on all specimens.
- Accurately observes and records the signal patterns observed in each cell studied.
- Perform statistical calculations to determine result.
- Label and upload images for pathologists review.
Qualifications:
Specialty Cytogenetic Tech:
- Bachelor degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry required.
- Minimum of three years of clinical cytogenetics lab experience to (a) acquire a professional level of knowledge in cytogenetics, (b) acquire expertise in the operation of equipment and the performance of clinical diagnostic testing procedures.
- Must be certified as a Technologist in Cytogenetics by examination through the Board of Certification of the American Society for Clinical Pathologists [CG(ASCP)] .
- Must maintain certification through continuing education credits.Successful demonstration of the completion of the competencies required by the department/unit
Cytogenetic Histo Technologist:
- B.S. degree in Biology, Medical Technology, or a related science required.
- FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization) experience is preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CG(ASCP) certification required and must maintain certification. (Specialty level only)
