Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
Specialty pharmacy focuses on limited distribution, high cost, high touch medication therapy for patients with complex disease states. The specialty pharmacy team is highly involved in the full spectrum of patient care with frequent communication with patients/caregivers and coordination of care with providers. The specialty pharmacy team serves as another member of a patient's care team to treat complex conditions and follow patients on their therapeutic journey. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician working under the supervision and instruction of a licensed pharmacist, shall perform procedures and duties relating to the service's Scope of Care and in alignment with Ballad Health's mission and vison.
The candidate will be responsible for maintaining patient and department records, preparing and processing prescriptions, coordination of medication refills, answering telephone calls in a timely manner, communicating with patients, payers and healthcare providers, inventory management, shipping, and patient services. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician must be accurate and meticulous to avoid possible errors and ensure safety. The candidate must be able to communicate clearly and accurately. Senior, experienced pharmacy technicians may be asked to supervise and train newly hired technicians or pharmacy students. This position will work closely with pharmacists, patients, providers, and others to coordinate medication access, address any patient issues and adherence for complex disease states. This position will work with primary and secondary payers to assure the patient has their medication in a timely fashion with the best pricing.
Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:
-Initiating the patient intake process which includes gathering and entering detailed information about the patient and the patient's prescription into the pharmacy's computerized system(s).
-Gain insight into the patient's needs, identify opportunities that will benefit the patient, effectively build and maintain strong patient relationships.
-Prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with the organization's goals. Juggles multiple activities and utilize knowledge of internal structures, processes, and cultures to resource efforts.
-Demonstrate a variety of multi-mode communication skills, listens, relates and comfortably collaborates effectively with patients and coworkers.
-Maintain a positive attitude despite adversity. Follow through on commitments and show a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of a formal technician training program preferred
-Two years experience as a pharmacy technician preferred
-Associates degree preferred
- Community or Specialty Pharmacy experience is preferred
- Proficient computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office
-Moderate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel preferred
-Valid driver's license required
-Must hold or be or be eligible to hold a valid and active Pharmacy Technician registration or licensure in appropriate state(s).
-The individual must hold or be eligible to hold a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification with active standing.
