JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Act 89 Speech Language Pathologist will work closely with the Nonpublic School Principals and teachers to address and effectively identify speech/language impairments in school age children. Services include screening, evaluating, diagnosing, consulting, and collaborating to support student improvement in their communication skills and educational performance. Students may have single sound errors or multiple disabilities, and in working with students, the therapist must be adept at implementing and documenting varied strategies and deploying a variety of service delivery models. Services provided by the SLP include assessment and intervention in speech sound disorders, voice, language, pragmatics, fluency, literacy (phonology), augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and dysphagia.

The Nonpublic Speech Language Pathologist is ultimately responsible to the Program Director of Federal and Nonpublic Programs.

Essential Functions:

  1. Effectively identify speech/language impairments in students in nonpublic schools.
  2. Effectively remediate speech/language impairments for students in nonpublic schools.
  3. Utilize current testing and therapy materials.
  4. Consult with the staff, parents, and others identified, so that they are able to develop strategies and implement practices to improve skills specific to a student's needs.
  5. Knowledge of a broad range of assessment strategies and analysis skills.
  6. Develop Evaluation reports in compliance with Act 89 guidelines.
  7. Collect and analyze data for progress monitoring.
  8. Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues on IU and nonpublic initiatives.
  9. High level organization and time management skills.
  10. Strategic thinking in the delivery of services to students.
  11. Collaborate with IU, Catapult, and nonpublic school teachers and administrators

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 193-day calendar position. Hours are based on a 7.5-hour work day with specific hours dependent on the assignment in the nonpublic school building.

Travel: Travel is dependent on the assignment within Bucks County and is reimbursed in accordance with current Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines and rates.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Pennsylvania Instructional 1-Special Education: Speech-Language Impaired PK-12
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
  • Pennsylvania Speech-Language Pathology License preferred. Will consider strong CFY candidate.

  • Strong understanding of current Pennsylvania and Federal Special Education Regulations
  • Clinical competence to support a wide range of communicative needs
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer technology and Augmentative-Alternative Communication
  • Compliance with health, safety and confidentiality regulations
