General Summary of Position


The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • PRACTICE and QUALITY\rProvide relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process.\rDemonstrates professional practice utilizing the framework of the professional practice model and is grounded in a culture of safety and quality.
  • COMMUNICATION and COLLABORATION\rCommunicates and collaborates with interprofessional groups to ensure coordination, continuity, and safe care.
  • Communicates verbal information and documents are written and electronic information that reflects the planned and delivered care for patients.
  • LEADERSHIP\rSupports and contributes to the unit, department, and organizational goals inclusive of the mission, vision, and values.\rDemonstrates advocacy and support on behalf of interprofessional teams and patients.\rDelegates and supervises nursing staff in providing patient care and assumes leadership roles, e.g., charge nurse role.\rParticipates in the development and implementation of quality activities.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Serves as a preceptor or mentor.\rParticipates in professional development activities.\rIncorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education
    • Associate's degree in Nursing required
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing preferred

    \r
    Experience
    • 1-2 years At least two (2) years recent acute care experience in the relevant patient care area required

    \r
    Licenses and Certifications
    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
    • BLS - Basic Life Support required
    • Certification in specialty or related specialty preferred
    • C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) is required for Perinatal nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) within 12 months from date of hire. New graduate nurses or new to specialty nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) will have 15 months from date of hire to obtain the EFM certification.

    This position has a hiring range of $38.00 -\r$63.30
