Job Description

Performs complex activity of higher professional level in the practice of occupational therapy, including patient evaluation and treatment, and program planning and implementation. Provides specialized activities

To aid patients in mastering the skills necessary to perform daily task at home, work, school and in the community, and to cope with long-term disabilities. May be responsible for the supervision of Staff Occupational Therapist and Assistants, coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of new programs, policies and procedures of an occupational therapy unit, performs related work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Records treatment effects on patient's charts daily.
  2. Writes patient discharge summary on department records.
  3. Complete patient evaluations, progress reports, recertifications, care plans, daily treatment, encounter notes as needed.
  4. Utilizes on the job training for nurse, occupations therapy technician, and orderly according to the training breakdown established and groups.
  5. Assists director of in-service training by conducting educational programs for graduate registered and licensed practical nurse relative to occupational therapy and rehabilitation procedure.
  6. Conducts departmental tours for interested groups.
  7. Assists in educational programs for student registered nurses by familiarization with the department and instruction in ADLs.
  8. Studies current trends and new developments in physical medicine by survey and literature and attendance at professional meetings and conferences.
  9. Provides treatment to assigned patients to help them achieve their functional goals with ADLs.
  10. Respond to consults and UDA provided by Physician/ Nurse.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. A Baccalaureate Degree from and accredited college with a major in Occupational Therapy approved by the American Occupational Association and two years of full-time experience administering occupational therapy under professional supervision, or
  2. A combination of the education and/or experience described above equivalent to (1). However, all candidates must have a minimum of one- year experience as described in (1) and Baccalaureate Degree.
  3. All candidates will be required to have a valid Occupational Therapy License and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Education.
  4. For assignment to Level II, all of the above with one year of additional experience, or a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or a directly related discipline.
