The Role
Do you want to build the backend services and APIs that power the ecosystem of Tesla Solar, Powerwall and Vehicle products to help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy? We're looking for software engineers like you to bring your talent to our team and build the Tesla app together with us.

The Tesla App is used by everyone who interacts with Tesla products. Our team builds the mobile app experience for Tesla's Energy Products: Solar, Powerwall, Megapack and EV Charging at home. We also support a Fleet API for 3rd party clients to connect and use data from our products. The backend of the Tesla App is built with Go and works in concert with our cloud microservices and direct communication with our hardware.

The goal of our app is to make the concepts of renewable energy friendly, simple, and understandable for everybody, while also offering surprising depth for our power users. With Charge Stats, our feature for evaluating the cost of charging a Tesla vehicle we help owners understand the basics of EV charging, along with the money they saved by switching to an EV. We also help support utility grids worldwide with our Tesla Virtual Power Plant products that improve the stability of the grid for people who don't yet own Tesla products and unlock extra value for those who do.


Responsibilities
  • Build, deploy, and scale services using Git, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and other relevant DevOps technologies
  • Design and engineer API services using Go, Ruby, GraphQL, Rest APIs, Protobufs, and other server technologies.
  • Quickly take on new concepts ranging from controlling battery storage to visualizing energy telemetry and value, and apply your knowledge to leave the world better than you found it
  • Obsess over keeping our code and tools as safe, fast, and beautiful as our app, so we enjoy our work experience while we build something our users love
  • Use first principles thinking to continually optimize processes and practices, for the purpose of providing better experiences for customers, faster
  • Make decisions while we scope scalable features in concert with engineering, product, and design teams
  • Push your first PR with your own code in your first week


Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience shipping secure and fast backend layers that work in concert with distributed systems and microservices
  • Strong experience building, deploying, and scaling services using Git, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and other relevant technologies
  • Previous experience building services for IoT or Energy products
  • Excellent knowledge of modern programming language such as Golang, Ruby and Scala
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts related to controlling battery storage and visualizing energy telemetry and value
  • Passion for Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy

    • Expected Compensation

      $104,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
