Sr. Civil Engineer

The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is a leader in debris recovery efforts. CalRecycle's office of Disaster Debris Recovery Operations brings together the most passionate and innovative team who are dedicated to helping rebuild communities after natural disaster. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers responsible for engineering plan documents for solid waste management and safe remediation to ensure the safety of homeowners, renters, contractors, and other state staff.

This position is a team of networking professionals across internal and external stakeholders, including Tribal Nation representatives, the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ensure debris removal operations are conducted safely and efficiently.

While mission tasked, this position required extensive travel and long deployment providing the ability to forge career long relationships with many emergency management entities. When not deployed this position is hybrid telework eligible, with up to 3 days telework.

This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your applications. This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

Special Requirements: Tier 0 health & safety training. Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Experience with project management in the engineering industry
• Experience with Federal, state and local laws ordinances and regulations surrounding emergency management and/or debris recovery
• Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Experience with contract development and management
• Experience working with industry, contractors, and/or local, state and federal government
• Experience dealing with stakeholders, community members and other state departments on complex engineering projects.
• Experience cost estimates for determining project budgetary needs, including cross divisional, and the identification of resource needs for debris removal projects
• Specialized civil engineering principles and practices applicable to emergency management or disaster debris removal
