Volt is immediately hiring for a Sr. Controls Engineer in St. Joseph, MI.

As a Sr. Controls Engineer you will use your knowledge of custom automation as a member of a team of sales professionals, managers, designers and builders to develop world-class automation systems. These machines are uniquely designed assembly, inspection, and test systems. Some of the industries our client serve include automotive, aerospace, defense, medical equipment, pharmaceutical, and industrial component manufacturers. You will take responsibility for the hardware and software design on projects under the direction of the Director of Engineering. This will typically include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Prepare control systems designs and utilizing AutoCAD, prepare drawings which include power distribution, PLC, panel layouts, console layouts, pneumatics, hydraulics, and instrumentation.
  • Write and document software.
  • Help manage budgets and schedules. Work with the Project Manager to develop cost to complete and release dates.
  • Work with the assembly department during the build phases of the project to provide efficient and timely solutions to problems.
  • Help develop skills through the collaboration with the rest of the Controls Department; this includes facilitating formal and informal training on products and software.
  • Help develop preliminary projects schedules.
  • After power-up, debug the software to ensure the system is "production worthy".
  • Participate as a team member during the installation phase of the project.

  • Variable Frequency Drives - Allen Bradley Powerflex,
    • Secondary: SEW Eurodrive.
  • Robotics - FANUC,
    • Secondary: Epson, Yaskawa, Denso, Kuka, Kawasaki.
  • Linear Actuators - Intelligent Actuator, Festo, Tolomatic, Rexroth.

This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is desirable, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7 or more years of experience in controls engineering related to custom automation
  • 3 or more years of design experience utilizing AutoCAD software
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 45 hours of work expected per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel may be 10% or more per year.

Salary: $100,000 - $135,000 per year
