Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Director - Cloud Engineering and Operations will be responsible for overseeing the entire cloud strategy, including the design, development, and deployment of cloud solutions. The role will also work closely Research Operations to support their cloud needs. This individual will lead a team of cloud engineers, architects, and specialists to ensure the successful migration of applications and services to the cloud. In addition to its primary function of leading Cloud Engineering and Operations, this role will also oversee all planning and operations for the infrastructure, platforms, and cloud group, providing support across PMO, Finance and other support capabilities.

As a key leader on the Infrastructure, Platforms, and Cloud leadership team, this individual will collaborate and partner with other enterprise leaders and vendors to strategize, design, implement, and support all cloud initiatives.

This role will directly report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of MGB.

1. Develop and execute a comprehensive cloud strategy aligned with the MGB's business goals and objectives.

2. Lead and manage the cloud migration program, ensuring seamless transition of applications and services to the cloud.

3. Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.

4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including within Digital, Research and business areas, to ensure alignment and successful cloud adoption.

5. Provide technical leadership and guidance on cloud architecture, best practices, and emerging technologies.

6. Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure cost-effective and efficient use of cloud resources.

7. Establish and enforce cloud governance policies, standards, and procedures.

8. Monitor and optimize cloud usage, performance, and costs.

9. Lead and mentor a team of cloud professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

10. Support the CTO in managing the day 2 day operations of group by establishing, tracking and reporting meterics to effectively run the group with interfaces to Digital Strategy & Operations group for budgeting and tracking and with HR for any talent related engagements.

11. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.

12. Stay current with the latest trends and developments in cloud technologies and services.

Supervisory Responsibilities:.

1. Be a member of the Infrastructure, Platform and Cloud team's leadership team.

2. This individual will lead a team of cloud engineers, architects, and specialists to ensure the successful migration of applications and services to the cloud.

Fiscal Responsibility:

1. This role will manage the allocated budget for the Cloud Engineering and Operations and manage Cloud FinOps.

2. Contribute to the cost optimization, identifying ways to reduce expenses without sacrificing quality, including supporting negotiations with vendor contracts and selecting cost-effective technologies.

3. Contribute to conduct investment analysis to assess the financial viability of new Cloud investments, analyzing return on investment (ROI) and total cost of ownership (TCO) to guide strategic decisions.

Working Model

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• This position requires weekly local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences.

• Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.

• Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Qualifications

1. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field is desired. Advanced degrees, such as a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or Information Systems, can be advantageous, especially for understanding the business impact of technology decision

2. Overall 15+ years of professional IT experience with 5+ years of leading large Technology and Cloud Functions

3. Relevant Professional certifications in cloud computing platforms like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

1. Adapt to changing business, operating models and emerging technologies

2. Coach and mentor other architects, product owners/managers and business stakeholders to instill architectural thinking

3. Deep knowledge of IT infrastructure, including data center operations, cloud computing services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), networking, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies is also essential with relevant certifications desired.

4. Minimum 15 years of experience in IT architecture and operations, with a focus on designing and implementing infrastructure solutions. Must have proven experience in project management, strategic planning, and budget management.

5. Ability to recruit, retain, and direct the solution/technical architecture team (s)

6. Strong leadership and communication skills are crucial and ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a strategic mindset are also important.
