Position Summary:

The Senior Engineering Technician supports the development of new products, enhances existing products, and provides insights on competitive products through comprehensive data acquisition, testing, and troubleshooting. This role involves setting up and operating test equipment, developing new testing methodologies, and researching best practices that can be applied within the organization. The technician conducts component testing for both internal and external customers, documents results in detailed reports, and may travel independently to customer sites for on-site testing. Additionally, the position involves assembling and testing prototype designs, while providing valuable feedback to the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform sampling and testing of in-house and vendor-supplied components based on engineering evaluation requests.
  • Determine optimal methods for meeting test requirements, including the design and development of new test equipment.
  • Set up test stands and execute specified test routines on selected parts.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to capture and document part dimensions as per established procedures.
  • Operate multiple data acquisition systems and techniques to record test results.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing test results and share them with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain Tech Center equipment and manage inventory of supplies.
  • Collaborate with design engineering teams to test parts under development and assemble/test product prototypes.
  • Provide feedback on opportunities and challenges observed during part assembly and testing.
  • Configure test stands, adaptors, and wiring, and create test setup drawings for future reference.
  • Share observations with the engineering staff and propose next steps based on test outcomes.
  • Assist in the design and modification of new and existing products.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives by testing new or alternative parts to evaluate their impact on functionality and reliability.
  • Evaluate new technologies and test methods to assess their effectiveness in identifying design weaknesses.
  • Interface with customers and sales representatives to address questions related to product operation, testing, and performance.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, ensuring tools are stored correctly and the work area remains clean and organized.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • A combination of four years of college or trade school education, or equivalent experience, plus technical or related experience. (Note: Equivalent education equals 2 years of closely related experience for 1 year of formal education.)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Skills:
  • PLC Programming: Ideally, the candidate can program PLCs from scratch and work with various software interfaces. At a minimum, some PLC experience is preferred
  • LabView: Preferably able to configure the GUI-based interface for developing new tests or setting up new data acquisition configurations. At a minimum, some experience with the LabView GUI interface is required.
