The Role
Tesla is looking for a highly-motivated engineer to contribute to implementing and sustaining Industrial Engineering principles to the total manufacturing process of our cutting-edge Energy Products and Model 3 Powertrain at Gigafactory 1, outside Reno, Nevada. Through a detailed understanding of the factory objectives and extensive collaboration with internal and external teams, you will help optimize our manufacturing and material flow process. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's world class manufacturing facility in Nevada. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on critical subsystems of an incredibly exciting product.


Responsibilities
  • Material flow optimization for existing line and new line installations
  • Production equipment, conveyance, and human work measurement for operations and engineering stakeholders; utilizing these skills to optimize gross margin through capacity improvement and streamlining operations
  • Layout and space readiness initiatives for existing line optimization and new line installations, including 2D CAD design; merging new lines & products into existing and expanding factory footprint
  • High quality decision support through, primarily but not limited to, Excel analysis, discrete event simulation, linear programming, and other operations research methods
  • Support of structured problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Business case development for capital expense projects


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience, or evidence of exceptional ability
  • Prior experience with material flow optimization (preferred)
  • Track record of excellence in current and prior roles
  • Experience as part of a project team prioritizing multiple continuous improvement projects
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Competency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically high proficiency with Excel
  • Distinguishing experiences/skills: 2D/3D CAD, lean manufacturing, work measurement, analytics (SQL, Tableau), discrete event simulation, operations research, lean manufacturing, scale manufacturing experience
