McLane is looking for a Sr Manager, Data Science to join our fast-paced Data CoE team! As the Lead Data Scientist on the Data CoE team, you'll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of high impact projects related to supply chain, procurement and inventory management within Retail and Restaurant sector. The ideal candidate will be hands-on lead and grow a team of data scientists supporting the data science strategy and roadmap. This role has a meaningful impact on the overall business, requiring the candidate to operate with a high degree of autonomy and effectively communicating insights and plans to all levels of the organization.

This is a hybrid position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office three days a week. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Temple, TX.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned. A teammate in this position must have the ability to:
  • Lead, research, strategize, design, implement, document and communicate Data Science initiatives end-to-end, from incubation to deployment.
  • Build and enhance machine learning, statistical and causal models for product search, ranking and recommendation that support various business goals.
  • Facilitate the delivery of enterprise wide, production grade, and accurate data science products by establishing and standardizing tooling and process frameworks for standard methodologies.
  • Investigate the design and performance of models and fine tune as necessary.
  • Work closely with product and engineering managers to develop and deploy solutions with cross-functional support
  • Build team of data scientists and provide mentorship to less experienced data scientists.
  • Educate our business and engineering partners across the organization on data science concepts (e.g., statistics, machine learning).
  • Identify gaps in existing data, create data product specs, and work with Engineering teams to implement enhanced data tracking.
  • Partner with Analytics team members and other functions to share insights and best practices, ensuring consistency of data-driven decision-making throughout the org.
  • Effectively communicating your insights and plans to cross-functional team members and management.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • MS or PhD in statistics, mathematics, analytics, computer science or another quantitative field AND 3+ years of experience as a data scientist in Logistics or Retail.
  • Or, 8+ years of experience as a data scientist in eCommerce, Supply Chain or Logistics.
  • Hands-on experience in building ranking and recommendation models in production environments.
  • Experience applying descriptive statistics, machine learning, predictive modeling, and visualization techniques to solve challenging business problems.
  • Expert knowledge in and ability to demonstrate hands on capabilities with the following:
    • Statistical and machine learning techniques.
    • Data Science libraries in a programming or scripting language Model deployment.
    • Machine learning workflows.
  • Proficient in:
    • Python + related ML libraries and frameworks (Ex: PyTorch).
    • Proficient in SQL and working with large datasets.
    • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and model development and deployment technologies (e.g., Databricks).
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills (to both technical and business audiences).
    • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, present findings to senior teams, and drive a data-driven culture within the organization.
    • MS Azure or Fabric experience/knowledge a plus.
