Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer applies a working knowledge of engineering fundamentals to the division's engineering and design activities under the direction of a Project Manager. The Senior Mechanical Engineer interacts with all OES departments as necessary to provide engineering support to OES manufacturing, integration, and test activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

• Complete engineering tasks that may include a variety of complex features and design requirements.
• Technically manage projects of small scope.
• Develop objectives, schedules, and estimates for assignments and prepare reports on the results.
• Ensure that customer requirements are systematically converted into total system solutions.
• Support the Systems Engineering Program in accordance with customer/project requirements, including the performance of hazard analyses and FMEAs.
• Develop and recommend design approaches for new or improved products or processes. Consolidate results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects.
• Devise innovative solutions to problems.
• Conduct independent technical investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component, or process specifications and requirements.
• Generate work instructions and test procedures.
• Prepare reports and present results to management and clients.
• Interact with customer representatives to define and manage customer expectations.
• Assist in bid and proposal efforts by providing cost estimations, technical approach definitions, and input to baseline schedule data.
• Evaluate vendor capability to provide required products or services.
• May coordinate the efforts of technicians, drafters, technical writers, and other engineers on specific projects.
• May provide work leadership for lower-level employees.
• May review process and evaluate results of work accomplished by self and others.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or relevant combination of education and experience).
• 3-5 years of practical experience in mechanical engineering.
• Ability to demonstrate good technical judgment, independent evaluation, and ingenuity.
• Ability to occasional work outside normal working hours.
• Ability to interact with customer representatives.
• Proficiency in the application of current engineering software (i.e. SolidWorks, Altium, Matlab, etc).
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Good technical writing skills.
• Able to apply a working knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of mechanical engineering and an understanding of related engineering fields.
• Good hands-on abilities for assembling mechanical components.
• Knowledge of CMMI/ISO.

DESIRED

• Master's degree in related field.
