Position Summary:
The Sr. Production Planner coordinates within the organization to ensure the successful execution of manufacturing at Joplin. They are emotionally intelligent, lead by example, and bring commitment and drive to the workplace.

The purpose of this role is to: 1) establish realistic schedules for all projects in the Joplin portfolio, 2) monitor project progress of all projects, especially high-value and high-priority projects, 3) drive Production to achieve the baseline dates of all projects, 4) provide root cause analysis and recovery plans when project schedules fall behind the baseline, 5) create production work package documents, 6) support Earned Value and Capacity Planning activities, and 7) assist Sales in developing realistic proposal schedules.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Establish realistic schedules that achieve the specific commercial milestone dates of each project, maintains a healthy float, and enables Joplin Manufacturing to maximize its performance objectives.
a. Specific commercial milestone date requirements include: Project Launch Meeting date and critical manufacturing milestone dates
b. Manufacturing performance objectives include level-loading the shop capacity and achieving On-Time Delivery (OTD), absorption targets, etc.
c. Manufacturing resources are departments, machines, and skilled labor.
d. Utilizing best scheduling practices, clearly define all activities in the schedule with proper logic, assigned budgets (where applicable), and accurate activity durations.
e. Schedule weekly Production Controls Meeting with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Expediting to obtain current status of percent completes and forecasted start and completion dates.
• Perform a weekly bottleneck assessment paying particular attention to resources (i.e. people, machines) and floorspace and provide assessment results to Supervisor, Plant Manager, and Project Management.
• Notify Project Management when manufacturing equipment "goes down" unexpectedly or is planned for routine maintenance. List all of the projects that will be impacted by the machine being down.
• Work with the project team to ensure changes to the work scope (i.e., ICR, ECR, or NCR) are properly initiated (and approved, if possible) within DMS before any changes are made to the schedule. All changes affecting MFG need to be captured within the Schedule.
• Identify and mitigate schedule risk and suggest/assist in corrective action to ensure minimal impact to the production process.
• Create production manufacturing orders to initiate manufacturing projects in the shop.
• Monitor and evaluate the percentage completion of activities, work with Manufacturing and Quality to ensure that the percent complete is accurate.
• Assist Sales in developing proposal schedules.
Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Associate degree a plus, but not required.
• BS is preferred, but not required
• Project Management Professional (PMP) a plus
• 2 - 4 years of experience as a planner or scheduler for a manufacturing facility and/or power generation is required.
• Earned Value Management (EVM) experience is required.
• Capacity / Resource Planning experience is required.
• Manufacturing experience in related field required.
• Knowledge of material movement or material flow is preferred.
• Must have excellent verbal, written & interpersonal communication skills.
• Must have some scheduling knowledge and experience reading and reporting schedule progress in either MS Project of Primavera (P6).
• Ability to read blueprints is a plus.
• Knowledge of welding processes and manufacturing a plus.
• Earned Value Management (EVM) knowledge is a plus.
• Proficiency in the use of general Business software; MS Office including Excel and PowerPoint
• Primavera Scheduling Software (P6) and MS Project experience is required.
• Familiarity with MRP systems is a plus.
