The Sr. Project Engineer, New Product Introduction is responsible for supporting the development of new processes and carrying out each trial exactly to the established product specification. This role will be supporting our Powerwall product at our Nevada Gigafactory. This includes managing the program from early prototype builds through to the launch of the production line. The primary role of the Sr. Project Engineer will be to test and validate systems and parts involved in product development and manufacturing to ensure products are of the highest quality. To support this, the Project Engineer will also establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, prepare equipment, document test results and maintain records. The Project Engineer will identify, report, and adjust equipment or processes that require improvement. The Sr. Project Engineer will collaborate with safety, design, product excellence, change control, manufacturing, and service departments.


Responsibilities
  • Lead manufacturing line trials for new products and processed; Conduct trial preparation and reporting: Ensure part availability, line readiness, and pre-requisite data obtained and consolidated. Document observations, analysis, and results, make recommendations as needed and drive solutions. Record all issues found during trials and help drive to closure; Manage trial recovery: Ensure manufacturing lines are validated and/or restored to prior condition post-trial(s). Evaluate the success of each trial (yield, downtime, cost, safety, etc.).
  • Become expert level Trainer on all machines in assigned areas and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shift technicians. Provide hands-on support to maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations; Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on trials to ensure proper validation procedures are followed
  • Manage quality assurance and procedures by testing and validating systems and parts; Assist in establishing and implementing new validation standards, and procedures
  • Driving accountability regarding project & program milestones, key initiatives, and project success criteria
  • Coordinating with variety of cross-functional stakeholders to track execution of projects: production operations, engineering functions, finance & accounting, material & production planning, design teams, etc.
  • Development and deployment of a world class operations playbook across energy product manufacturing sites, including preventative maintenance, business reviews, etc.
  • Lead, guide, and mentor junior team members


Requirements
  • 6+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment; Experience commissioning and improving equipment. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions
  • Develop robust and clear data collection, visualization, and analysis tools. Enable data driven operational and financial decisions through predictive insights into tool and process performance, including integration of factory data systems and use of software such as MySQL, Python, R, JMP, Minitab, Tableau and Ignition
  • Experience breaking down high-level (e.g., device level) performance issues into addressable action items. Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities, competing priorities, and challenges
  • Experience supporting, maintaining, and modifying pilot line equipment to support development efforts for multiple programs
  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
