JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for a variety of routine safety and emergency security activities while safeguarding students, employees, visitors, patients and property. Conducts Public Safety training and development programs. First responder to all emergency incidents within the assigned facility. Responsible for the safe de-escalation of critical events and the use of sound judgment in the engagement with combative or escalating subjects. Functions as an informal resource to colleagues, conducts training and on-boards for new employees.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two years of experience in general security, military or other public safety experience where required to actively carry a firearm in the regular course of duty, or an equivalence of training and job experience to support effective demonstration of responsible handling of weapons and use of force.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Valid Drivers license & adhere to Piedmont's Healthcare Vehicle Safety Program policy 3500
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (IAHSS) Required within one year of hire.
Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certification preferred
Carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser CEW and/or a baton required
Carry company issued firearm required
Must pass pre-employment psychological screening
Must pass and maintain all training requirements to maintain employment to include certifications in Firearms, Taser, ASP Baton, Mental Health First Aid, and others as directed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate Piedmont values and excellent customer service to all patients, staff and visitors within a Piedmont Facility.
Screen for and interdict weapons as they enter a facility.
Maintains security of the hospital, professional buildings and parking lot/deck.
Communicates to management of individual officer and/or shift development or deficiencies,
training, status of projects, etc.
Acts as an informal resource for colleagues
Conducts new employee and current employee training as it relates to key job responsibilities and security operations.
Oversee the responses to all routine and emergency security activities as assigned by policy or management.
Maintain continued training and readiness of self and junior officers.
Perform incident documentation and initial incident investigation.
Responsible for actively monitoring all at risk patients and deescalating difficult situations.
Respond appropriately to aggressive behavior and apply physical restraints.
Screen for and interdict weapons as they enter a facility.
Make sound judgments when utilizing force, including deadly force, to provide a safe environment.
Demonstrate respect and courtesy in the conduct of job performance.
Perform documentation in the medical record.
In the event of an emergency, maintains order and safety of personnel.
Advocates crime prevention and a secure work environment through observation, interaction, and intervention.
Enforces all PHC policies, regulations and applicable state and federal laws.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Capable of demonstrating basic literacy and satisfactory interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to learn and operate computerized security systems, concealed weapons screening systems , CCTV monitoring equipment, and standard 2-way radios.
Possess public/human relations skills, able to cope with stress and emergency situations.
Write clear and comprehensive status reports, and correspondence; present ideas and
information effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
