Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Regulatory team member to join our Pet Care Team. As the Senior Regulatory Specialist, you will work with cross functional teams, providing guidance and direction to ensure regulatory compliance across the organization. You will play a crucial role in ensuring all regulatory requirements are met related to the production, distribution, labeling, claims development & substantiation of pet food products. The Senior Regulatory Specialistutilizes people skills, regulatory knowledge and experience gained to support internal cross-functional teams related to new product development initiatives. In addition, this role will help develop innovative solutions and processes to address future compliance challenges

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Focused on new product development initiatives and label review within the food, chews/treats and specialty pet feed space.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in research activities, showing and sharing knowledge of pet food regulations.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay up-to-date and demonstrate strong knowledge of AAFCO, FDA and Animal Feed Labeling requirements including Pet Food Label Modernization along with local, regional, and international regulations governing the pet food industry.
    • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in product development, labeling, and distribution processes.
  • Regulatory Strategy:
    • Help implement regulatory strategies and occasionally participate in industry advocacy efforts that align with business goals and objectives.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, marketing, and operations, to ensure regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive regulatory documentation such as: claims substantiation, ingredient lists, product labels, and formulation specifications.
    • Ensure all records and processes are organized, up-to-date, and readily accessible for internal and external audits.
  • Industry Monitoring:
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, scientific research, and emerging regulatory developments related to pet food.
    • Provide recommendations and guidance to management regarding potential impacts on products and operations.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, marketing, and product development, to address regulatory issues and ensure compliance across all business activities.
  • Regulatory Training:
    • Help develop and deliver regulatory training internal stakeholders, including product development teams, marketing teams, and manufacturing personnel, to enhance regulatory awareness and understanding.

Education and Experience Profile
  • B.S. or B.A. in food science, animal science, biology, biochemistry, or similar science.
  • Exceptions can be made for candidates with a B.A. in a non-science discipline, coupled with an advanced degree or direct relevant and material experience working directly with the required regulatory agency and existing contacts with the individual states
  • 3-7 years of experience in the regulatory field (interpreting and applying AAFCO regulations/guidelines and applicable pet food related U.S. (e.g., FDA, CVM, USDA) and foreign regulations Preferred)

Required Skills
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Accomplished user of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
  • Proficient in SAP and SPX a plus

Work Environment
Working conditions are normal for an office environment.

Travel up to 10% of time may be required.
