Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is the centerpiece the Amazon Web Services (AWS) family of cloud computing services. Customers depend on EC2 to provide secure and reliable computing power for business, research, education, or anything else they need to accomplish their goals. Our team is building new and exciting services that help our customers reduce their costs and improve their overall experiences using EC2. We are looking for software engineers who care about the customer and are excited at the thought of providing simple and well-designed solutions to meet our customers' needs.

Our team is currently working backwards from the customer by developing a new product that is being envisioned as if it were ready to ship. This product will serve both day-to-day users and company executive leadership in making decisions that will drive their EC2 usage. We are building a high-throughput, strongly available, and scalable APIs that will serve as a single focal point for decision-makers to ingest data. These decisions will continue to drive the scalable and efficient delivery of EC2 compute capacity to customers.

Key job responsibilities

While our service will span multiple teams, day-to-day responsibilities will include significant hands-on software development, designing, coding, building software services to support the scale out of the team's services, and working with other engineers and AWS service teams. You will create systems that feed public facing APIs that customers will interact with. You will have a major influence in coaching others across the organization, in collaboration with software development teams, as well as leading local development to improve operational excellence.

- Design and implement long-term solutions for EC2 Capacity Products Engineering

- Focus on impactful changes that will improve customer experience

- Development and operate low-latency, high-availability services

- Mentoring and coaching performance management for a best-in-class engineering team

- Ownership and continuous improvement for the team's software stack

- Drive innovation on behalf of our customers

- Execute against project plans and delivery commitments

A day in the life

A successful candidate will spend their days between their code editor of choice, document editor for design communications, regular status meetings and taking regular operations rotations. During operation rotation, candidates in this role will lead operations reviews, track down operational problems and provide appropriate solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
