As the Sr. SDE in the Worldwide Grocery Store Technology (WWGST) organization, this role leads software architecture for the Culinary Technology (CT) program teams. The CT program is responsible for the software and services for Made-to-Order (MTO) food ordering, food preparation, and grocery fulfillment for all Whole Foods Market (WFM) and Amazon Fresh/Go stores, in-store and online, worldwide. These services enable Amazon and WFM customers to purchase MTO food items from 550+ WFM stores and provide WFM Team Members (TMs) and Amazon Associates (AAs) with the tools to manage, prepare, and fulfill MTO orders. We are looking for a strong Software Development Engineer with experience in building secure, scalable solutions that delight customers. As a foundational member of the team, you will have broad ownership and design/implement solutions that contribute directly to our service launch. You will be joining a strong team with a great work environment, with an opportunity to lead the technology and product decisions we make on behalf of these interesting customer challenges.

The ideal candidate should have experience in building distributed systems, with strength on infrastructure concepts. In addition to strong technical knowledge, the ideal candidate should thrive in a fast-paced start-up like environment and be passionate about solving ambiguous problems.

Key job responsibilities

- Lead design, implementation, testing, and delivery of solutions.

- Participate in code and design reviews.

- Train/mentor teammates as well as other engineering teams.

- Work directly with customers and dependencies to ensure quality delivery.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
