This Sr Specialist, Mechanical Engineer - Aircraft Propulsion Systems role will work across a broad range of disciplines with an emphasis on propulsion subsystem development, analysis, and testing for unmanned aircraft. Primary responsibilities for this role include being the primary interface for critical suppliers, evaluating and testing propulsion subsystems, conducting data analyses, and interfacing with the vehicle design team for integration.
The Agile Development Group (ADG) division is part of L3Harris' Advanced Combat Systems and specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS/UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies, using small company agility combined with large company experience and resources.

Essential Functions:
- Lead development effort for key components of propulsion subsystem, providing technical guidance to internal engineers as well as external suppliers, while ensuring technical, schedule and cost objectives of the hardware are met.
- Provide engineering guidance and direction to junior engineers from conceptual design through release.
- Interface with test engineers to define test objectives, conduct testing to evaluate performance of propulsion subsystems, leverage multiple types of instrumentation to collect data.
- Field support for range testing activities
- Interface with analysts to define requirements for reporting plans, interpret test output data to inform trade studies and drive design decisions.
- Participate in and/or lead multi-disciplinary internal design reviews.
- Assist with program schedule creation and hardware development planning, providing engineering labor and material estimates.
- Physical Requirements: ability to lift to 20 lbs.
- Up to 10% travel may be required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any additional program clearances.
- Prior or current experience performing basic operations in MATLAB.
- Experience in solid modeling (Creo Parametric preferred)
- Experience in aircraft, UAV, or missile system propulsion design
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field (though not required)
- Working knowledge and experience utilizing Simulink or other simulation and modeling tools.
- Working knowledge and experience utilizing LabVIEW and/or Data Acquisition Systems.
- Strong knowledge of jet engine design, fuel system design, incompressible fluids modeling.
- Prior UAV detailed design experience.
- Exposure to/experience with engine or fuel system testing.
- Design verification test planning and fixture design or field-testing experience.
