Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in student-athlete academic endeavors by implementing educational measures designed to assist those students who are deemed at-risk. Responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive educational programming that fosters leadership development, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Works as a member of the leadership team to ensure that all student-athletes receive appropriate academic support, educational testing, remediation placement, and summer orientation needs are met. Oversees college success seminars for student-athletes, including course and curriculum development to provide education for college transition, academic success strategies, leadership, and professional development. Reviews admission scores to assess student-athlete needs and Educational Services program deficits. Maintains detailed records and paperwork associated with the educational plans for at-risk student-athletes.
  • Oversees Educational Services staff members, academic and psycho-social screening and testing referrals, and the tutorial and mentor programs. Responsible for supporting the academic endeavors of all student-athletes by implementing educational measures targeting specifically those student-athletes deemed most at-risk, including those diagnosed with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Duties will include but are not limited to: Full-time staff oversight and leadership, guidance in implementing a systematic, but individualized approach to student-athlete academic development; meeting regularly (weekly, bi-weekly or tri-weekly) with at-risk student-athletes to monitor their academic progress and employment of educational strategies.
  • Collaborating with Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) staff members to present educational workshops for student-athletes; assisting student-athletes in receiving educational accommodations as awarded through the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS). Serve as the liaison between SAAS and the following departments: Sports Medicine, OAS, Counseling and Psychology, and Sport Psychology.
  • Responsible for oversight and planning of summer bridge program for the athletic department, working in collaboration with committee members to design and implement a successful summer bridge program. May advise assigned caseload of student-athletes and communicate academic progress to coaches, administrators, and SAAS staff. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience working with student-athletes by monitoring their academic progress and employment of educational strategies.
  • Experience in presenting educational workshops for student-athletes.
  • Experience with academic advising/oversight in a secondary or post-secondary setting.
  • Experience working independently and prioritizing work under deadlines.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Attention to detail and the highest standard of integrity are imperative.
  • Ability to deal with people calmly, confidently and with complete objectivity.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
