PURPOSE

The Engineering Intern performs engineering functions and assists the engineering team. Works with the Engineering staff on projects/tasks that support the SSBO plant and is responsible for reliability improvement, productivity improvement, and process development projects as assigned. Reports to engineering, facilities, or quality leader.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for assigned engineering related projects and tasks.
  • Develops and maintains open, clear, and professional communications with all levels of staff. This communication is to be aimed at identifying obstacles to success and developing a plan to address those issues.
  • Recommends modifications to improve reliability and productivity within the plant.
  • Works with management to develop solutions to recurring problems.
  • Designs manufacturing tools to support production.
  • Perform cost reduction projects.
  • Present on projects and related activities.
  • Assist in creating manufacturing work instructions and technique cards.
  • Identify and address safety considerations within the scope of projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current enrollment in an engineering program pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering; investment casting knowledge preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and/or Solid Works preferred.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Proactive communicator who can clearly articulate results and needs across all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines.
  • Sound judgement.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates high urgency and strong motivation.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Schedule flexibility.
