Piper Companies is seeking aStaff Accountant with a focus on general accounting activities and tax responsibilities for a small business. In this role, you will ensure timely reporting and payment of sales tax, VAT, and GST. This is a mostly remote, FTE role with occasional time spent in the Durham, NC office.

Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant

● Maintains and manages all domestic and international sales and uses tax, VAT and, GST

● Responsible for the filing (and coordination) of all tax documents in a timely manner ensuring the resulting liabilities are paid on a timely basis using third party tax return preparers (Avalara).

● Assists with financial/tax audits and gathers required audit information.

● Performs bank reconciliations as needed

● Ensures financial accounts as assigned are properly supported and reconciled.

● Communication with managers, collecting timesheet data and payroll information

● Entering data into payroll and administrative databases and software programs

● Calculating wages, benefits, tax deductions, expenses, and commissions

● Interacting and communicating with third-party payroll vendors in a timely manner

● Maintaining accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions

● Collaborating closely with the People & Culture team to ensure payroll information accuracy

● Assisting with annual 401k audit

● Preparing Journal Entries to record payroll

● Responding to payroll-related inquiries and resolving concerns

● Performing Balance Sheet reconciliations, as applicable

● Preparing financial reports for accounting and auditing purposes

● Assisting with month and year-end closings

● Assisting with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures

● Assisting with year-end audit

● Departmental filing, as necessary

● Preparing periodic payroll reports for review by management

Qualifications for the Staff Accountant :

• 3+ years of accounting experience
• Working knowledge of payroll, VAT, and GST tax laws.
• BS in accounting or finance is required

Compensation for the Staff Accountant:

• Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000, or dependent on relevant experience
• Benefits: Generous Bonus Package
