Staff Applied Scientist, Ads Delivery

About the Role

Ads is one of the fastest growing lines of businesses at Uber. Every day thousands of advertisers use our Advertising platform to reach users on the Uber platform to help grow their businesses. The Applied Science team on Ads Delivery designs and builds the core algorithmic components of the Ads Delivery system.

As a Staff Applied Scientist on the team, you will work on understanding how various parts of the system (e.g. auction, pacing, bidding, ranking) are performing. You will own the design and implementation of new algorithms to make our Ads Delivery system more efficient and performant.

We are looking for experienced candidates, who have had experience building Ads Delivery systems. to help accelerate our growth. The ideal candidate should possess a strong passion for understanding complex systems, have the curiosity to understand why systems behave in certain ways, have the drive to research / propose new system designs and is a pragmatist.

\\-\\-\\-\\- What the Candidate Will Do ----

- Refine ambiguous questions and generate new hypotheses about the product through a deep understanding of the data, our customers, and our business
- Design experiments and interpret the results to draw detailed and impactful conclusions.
- Define how our teams measure success, by developing Key Performance Indicators and other users/business metrics, in close partnership with Product and other subject areas such as engineering, operations and marketing
- Collaborate with applied scientists and engineers to build and improve on the availability, integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data logging and data pipelines.
- Develop data-driven business insights and work with cross-functional partners to find opportunities and recommend prioritisation of product, growth, and optimisation initiatives.

\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.
- 3+ years experience as a Data Scientist or equivalent
- Experience using Python or R to work with large data sets at scale
- Experience using SQL in a production environment
- Experience in experimental design and analysis, exploratory data analysis, and statistical analysis
- Experience with dashboarding and using data visualization tools
- Experience using statistical methodologies such as sampling, statistic estimates, descriptive statistics, or similar

\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----

- 6+ years of industry experience.
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.
- Experience in building Ads Delivery systems.
- Experience in algorithm development and prototyping.
- Experience with productionizing algorithms for real-time systems.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience with causal inference
- Sophisticated knowledge of statistical methods and causal inference.
- Experience using classical ML models (decision trees, regression models, etc) in a professional setting
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional team members to complete projects and achieve successful outcomes.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$174,000 per year - USD$193,500 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$174,000 per year - USD$193,500 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
