The Ohio Court of Claims is seeking an experienced attorney who is accomplished in research and writing. A judicial staff attorney serves the court at large and will be assigned to work on cases with the assigned judges and magistrates. Staff attorneys review and research legal issues, assist in drafting legal opinions, finding of fact and conclusions of law and formulate recommendations on disposition of motions. Staff attorneys develop expertise in civil procedure and in various areas of substantive law, including general civil practice. Staff attorneys may also be assigned to cases involving claims filed under the Victims of Crime Compensation Program, and complaints against government agencies regarding denial of access to public records.

What You'll Do:

-Researches complex legal issues; evaluates factual information; solicits additional information from appropriate sources; determines the appropriate course of action to be recommended.

-Drafts complex decisions & entries; follows relevant procedures, laws, codes, and the like.

-Provides general management of civil docket.

-May provide technical assistance to other legal staff or court personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school and Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code. Strong research, writing & communication skills, and 4 years legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Legal experience in civil litigation and/or government relations.
