About the Department:

Counseling and Psychological Services supports students through ethical and responsive care and prevention. We foster the well-being of the diverse Mason community through psychological, outreach, and consultation services. We provide high-quality training to emerging mental health professionals. We are committed to excellence in psychological services by promoting student safety, enhancing emotional growth, and supporting academic success.

About the Position:

This clinical position will provide short-term counseling, case management services, outreach services and opportunities for group counseling, if interested. The clinician will receive administrative supervision and participate in staff meetings. Time is protected on the clinician's schedule for administrative work, including clinical documentation.

This is an hourly wage position; hourly rate will depend upon level of training and experience. Our center is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, and we are seeking a part-time clinician who can work 16-24 hours per week. Free monthly CEs are offered to all clinical staff members.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Services:
  • Provides personal consultation, assessment, and case management services to individuals and group therapy;
  • Provides crisis assessment/intervention, and provide consultation services to parents, faculty, staff, and students; and
  • Provides community education programs to the Mason community.

Administrative Services:
  • Completes documentation of services within CAPS guidelines;
  • Attends staff and committee meetings;
  • Engages in continuing education and professional development to provide multiculturally competent services to a diverse student population; and
  • Other responsibilities and activities as assigned by the CAPS Director or Leadership Team.

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge gained by graduating from an accredited master's program in psychology, counseling, social work OR from a doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology;
  • Skills gained by experience providing individual and group counseling services to clients, as well as skills in crisis intervention services;
  • Ability to maintain and possess a current, unrestricted license as a Social Worker, Professional Counselor, or Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • Knowledge and skills to effectively work with diverse populations; and
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively on a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of collegiate mental health or clinical experience with similar developmental populations.
