Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following assignments:
- Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution plans
- Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
- Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring
- Develop protective relay setting for transmission & distribution systems including calculation of relay set points, logic diagrams, configuration files and documentation
- Perform Short circuit studies and protection coordination studies for transmission and distribution systems
- Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.)
- Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
- Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
- Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
- Provide short term field support during construction
- Support business development and marketing initiatives
- Other areas of involvement may include: physical substation design, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program
- Minimum 3 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)
- Completion of FE exam strongly preferred
- Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standards
- Strong preference for those with:
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria
