This position requires experience writing technical reports, performing environmental site assessment and remediation, logging of soil borings, subsurface soil sampling, installation and sampling of monitoring wells, report and permit preparation, managing such projects, and other activities, as required. Experience with investigating and managing coal combustion residuals (CCR) and working knowledge of the applicable regulations is required.

The Staff Environmental Engineer will be part of an experienced team working on a variety of site investigation and remediation projects for federal clients and will generally perform the following duties:
  • Perform safety, project and task management duties on environmental, remediation and CCR projects.
  • Prepare environmental investigation work plans, reports, etc.
  • Subcontractor solicitation and contracting, scheduling, and management of field activities involving staff and subcontractors.
  • Execute and guide environmental site assessments, including subsurface soil and groundwater sampling, air and vapor monitoring, monitoring well installation, soils logging, etc.
  • Assist in assessment of corrective measures and remediation system design and operation, including in-situ remedies, cover systems, recovery and treatment, etc.
  • Work closely with project teams and field personnel to complete and review projects within scope, budget and schedule.
  • Mentor and delegate tasks to junior staff.
  • All other duties assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) license or plans to obtain one.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience required (8 years strongly preferred) completing environmental investigations and remedial actions, analyzing and summarizing data, preparing soil boring logs, geological cross sections, groundwater flow maps, technical report writing, etc. with focus on CCR Projects.
  • Demonstrated strong safety culture and the importance of prioritizing safety for all employees. Deep understanding and compliance with safety protocols and standards, including documentation of safety standards required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude performing environmental field activities including collecting soil and groundwater samples, logging soil borings, overseeing construction materials testing, installing and developing monitoring wells, conducting hydrogeologic investigations and performing other field environmental monitoring activities.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data summarizing results, technical report writing.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training (and annual updates) is strongly recommended.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team framework.
  • Previous consulting and construction quality assurance experience is required.
  • Experience investigating coal combustion residuals (CCR) at regulated facilities is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency navigating regulations and working knowledge of State and/or Federal regulations in the Mid-Atlantic / Southeastern US is desired.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to multi-task (write reports, analyze data, perform design tasks, etc.) are also a prerequisite.
