Job Description

Areas of Responsibilities:

Labor and Delivery

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assesses and re-assessment patients' needs/problems and to determine response to treatment/intervention; completes admission assessment within 24 hours.
• Demonstrates ability to screen and refer for psychosocial problems including elder abuse/neglect, domestic violence, depression, suicide risk, and substance abuse.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in developing plan of care; provides and documents intervention according to established policies.
• Demonstrates ability to perform general procedures, including medication management, venipuncture and peripheral IV insertion.
• Utilizes available technology and equipment in providing patient care.
• Communicates patient's progress/issues using handoff and escalation policies.
• Participates in Unit Performance Improvement activities
• Serves as patient/family advocate; provides age-appropriate education to patients/family
• Conforms to regulatory agency standards that guide care in the assignment specialty
• Demonstrates commitment to continued professional development, including Specialty Board Certification

Minimum Qualifications

Special Note:
For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Department Preferences

Currently licensed as Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Required
• Has current BCLS and obtains NPR prior to work assignment
• Completes comprehensive orientation including clinical rotation to like units.
• Undergoes service specific training as required, such fetal monitoring, management of induced labor, infant screening and care, and other perinatal and neonatal specialty management.
• EPIC (EMR) Strongly desired
• One (1) year Medical Surgical RN experience in acute settings required
