Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State University College of Medicine is seeking a fellowship-trained neuropathologist, non-tenure track, clinician-educator or clinician-scientist, open rank, for a start date of July 2024 or possibly earlier. We are a growing subspecialty practice with annual combined surgical pathology volume of approximately 45,000 cases, and an active autopsy pathology service, at the quaternary care academic hub: the Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Cancer Institute and Penn State Children's Hospital. Penn State Health is a multi-hospital system that additionally includes 4 separately staffed regional community hospitals. The neuropathology service includes neuro-oncology, muscle and nerve biopsies and autopsy neuropathology. Independent or collaborative research in neurodegenerative disease and/or neuro-oncology is encouraged. Additionally, candidates without active research programs are expected to participate in cytopathology or surgical pathology subspecialties. The successful candidate will practice at Hershey Medical Center.
The successful candidate will join a strong, collegial department of 42 faculty in Anatomic, Clinical and Experimental Pathology, with a new section of Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics forthcoming. The department is in an exciting growth phase and has a fully accredited residency program of 16 positions and 4 accredited fellowships. Faculty participate actively, with several leadership roles, in undergraduate and graduate medical education and graduate school teaching. The COM enrolls 150 students per class and boasts an innovative curriculum. Support for collaborative and independent research, including intramural funding, professional development programs, and faculty mentoring is available. Board-certification or eligibility in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania are required for the position. The position does not offer J1 waiver or H1B sponsorship.
Hershey Medical Center lies in a particularly beautiful part of south-central PA with excellent schools, reasonable cost of living, easy commutes, and outstanding recreational opportunities. We are within 2 hours by car from major urban areas including Baltimore, DC and Philadelphia. PSH firmly endorses a culture of respect and strongly supports diversity, equity and belonging in its workplace.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled and should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three individuals who could provide a reference.
This job description is a general outline of duties performed and is not to be misconstrued as encompassing all duties performed within the position. All individuals (including current employees) selected for a position will undergo a background check appropriate for the position's responsibilities.
Penn State Health is fundamentally committed to the diversity of our faculty and staff.
