We're currently searching for a Staff Psychologist/Staff Counselor -Hispanic-Latinx Focus to join our counseling team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission.

The Staff Psychologist/Staff Counselor - Hispanic-Latinx Focus works with a multidisciplinary staff of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care. In 2022, Virginia Tech launched the Virginia Tech Advantage for Virginia students which seeks to provide a Virginia Tech experience financially within reach for everyone regardless of income. Part of this initiative will include recommendations and strategies to make Virginia Tech more affordable and accessible for underserved students, addressing financial feasibility and student success. Cook Counseling Center supports the academic mission of the university and has focused upon growing the multicultural competence and ethnic and racial diversity of the counseling staff. The goal for this position is to further our work with Hispanic-Latinx communities and marginalized students as we better understand the lived experiences of these students on this campus.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE:
1)You'll be joining the Thomas E. Cook Counseling team, a department committed to a spirit of excellence in providing timely and relevant university mental health services.
2) You'll be reporting to the Director in a regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment.
3) You'll be responsible for providing individual psychotherapy to students, coleading group psychotherapy with students (if applicable), providing on-call emergency after hours coverage as assigned, maintaining full and accurate case notes for clients, providing outreach/educational seminars to campus partners, and more.
4) You'll provide brief, culturally competent counseling for individuals, groups, and couples with diverse clinical concerns.
5) You'llwork with partners across the university to develop and provide culturally informed outreach and prevention services as well as partner with others on staff to provide training for other staff members.
6) You'll conduct crisis interventions as needed during the day and when on after hours call.
7) You'll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in counseling or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and be licensed or licensed eligible as a licensed professional counselor or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Supervision may be provided with a goal of licensure within 1-2 years depending on degree.
  • Experience in providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team
  • Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and interest in working with Hispanic-Latinx students
  • Bilingual
  • Experience or interest in working with students from under-represented populations
  • Strong commitment to social justice and issues of diversity
  • Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting
  • Interest and/or experience collaborating with other departments or offices on multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks
  • Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills
  • A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice
  • The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
