The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health and Wellness, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and School of Data Science are seeking to hire a part-time (20-24 hour/week) benefitted licensed mental health professional for the position of Staff Psychotherapist- Embedded in the School of Data Science.

The Staff Psychotherapist - Embedded in the School of Data Science is a staff member of CAPS who provides mental health services to Data Science students in UVA's bachelor, master, and doctorate Data Science programs. The Embedded Psychotherapist also collaborates with Data Science faculty, staff and administrators to provide outreach and consultation regarding student mental health needs. This Embedded Psychotherapist will be located full-time in the new Data Science building at 1919 Ivy Road. The School of Data Science, currently the 12th and newest academic school on UVA Grounds, is the epicenter of innovation and collaboration. The Embedded Psychotherapist will work closely with staff in the Office of Student Affairs at the School of Data Science. The Office of Student Affairs team is grounded by four main commitments to Student Success: academic support, career connections, sense of belonging, and personal and professional growth; all of which are designed to ensure that every student not only achieves their academic goals but also develops the skills and confidence necessary to thrive in their future endeavors.

Competitive candidates for this position will have experience and interest in working with first-generation college students, international students, and BIPOC students. Experience working with individuals in STEM fields is highly desired. Applicants skilled in serving clients with high acuity and substance use concerns are also strongly encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job responsibilities include providing triage, intake assessments, individual psychotherapy, and assistance with referrals to community resources. In addition, the Embedded Psychotherapist will provide culturally inclusive community outreach and consultation to students, faculty and staff. This position will offer collaborative care with CAPS psychiatric providers and serve on an interdisciplinary treatment team. If desired, and as time allows, this staff member may also provide didactic training and/or clinical supervision as part of the CAPS APA-accredited internship program in health service psychology.

We seek team-oriented individuals who are also highly independent, have strong communication skills, practice good self-care, maintain healthy boundaries, and can manage a challenging workload while promoting a positive relational and organizational atmosphere.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Masters or Doctorate in psychology, social work, counseling or related field.
  • Licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire).
  • A clear history of, and dedication to, providing mental health services to individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience providing individual psychotherapy to adolescents or adults including a minimum of 1 year of experience with risk assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Experience coordinating care with psychiatrists and/or other medical professionals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
