Description of Duties

• Provide and model Starbucks Customer Service Commitment

• Lead and regularly assign, instruct and check the work of teammates including Food Service Worker 1's and student staff in customer service, food & beverage preparation, stocking, cleaning and other café duties

• Maintain and role model a positive, calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events

• Prepare and serve quality food and beverage products consistently for all customers

• Deliver friendly, prompt service; engage with and educate customers about coffee-related topics

• Keep food and beverage display areas attractive, properly identified and priced

• Operate point of sale systems, keying in sales, taking payments and making change

• Follow operational policies and procedures for cash handling and safety and security

• Troubleshoot equipment issues with espresso machine, grinder, and other related equipment

• Complete order/inventory sheets to ensure adequate supply of items necessary for operation

• Receive ordered materials, check purchase receipts and invoices; return damaged goods

• Store merchandise received and rotate stock in refrigerators, freezers or storage rooms

• Maintain a clean and organized workspace; close down and set up facility for next shifts

• Frequently positions self to lift items or boxes/bins of product from floor or low shelving or placing items on low shelving for preparing or cooking food

• Perform all responsibilities to standards of Starbucks franchise, Washington State health code, and UW Dining

• Perform related duties as assigned

Position Dimensions

The position is a nine-month cyclic position that works mid-September to mid-June. Additional work may be available in the summer based on business needs and seniority. While staff are hired into specific positions, they may be reassigned to a different unit or schedule with two weeks of notice.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment AND one year of experience preparing and serving food and beverage or equivalent education/experience.

• A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes

• Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate leadership, customer service and espresso experience in fast-paced environments, and who demonstrate a strong focus on teamwork and providing consistently high-quality products and service.
