Reporting relationship: The State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer (SHSTE) reports to the Chief Safety and Operations (CSOO) Officer of MoDOT. This highly responsible position provides oversight in the development and implementation of policies and guidelines for state highway safety and traffic issues and provides support services for the development of projects in the statewide transportation improvement program.

Principal Responsibilities: The State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer provides direction to units within the highway and traffic division such as traffic systems, highway safety programs, and traffic operations. This position also develops best practices for traffic operations by working with districts, other state departments of transportation, and industry personnel. The State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer coordinates with cities, counties, federal and state agencies, elected officials, and other organizations concerning traffic and highway safety issues. The State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer is also responsible for the planning and management of the division's work plan and budget.
