Purpose:
Operate the Boiler and Chiller Plant to assure uninterrupted utilities are provided within the facility. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain various pieces of equipment through the Preventive Maintenance and Work Request Systems. Provide maintenance service to dedicated areas of the facility.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate the boilers and all the related buildings systems that originate in the Boiler Room. Maintain a current Class A Stationary Engineers license from the City of Pittsburgh, as well as a current valid PA vehicle operator's license. Frequently review departmental policies and procedures and maintains a working knowledge of the same.
  • Be knowledgeable in chemical analysis of the steam and condensate, all open and closed loop systems and water softeners. Add chemicals as required to maintain the proper chemical balance.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports such as daily temperature and status logs, boiler logs, cooling tower logs, gas meter and steam recorder logs, all chemical analysis logs, fire pump logs, problem reports, follow-up problem reports and fire alarm reports to provide the engineer on duty with the overall operation and conditions or problems which need attention.
  • Comply with the Department's current dress code policy.
  • Render services or perform work in accordance with specified Departmental Productivity standards.
  • Request that parts and materials are purchased as part of the repair and maintenance of the facility, and use all materials in an efficient manner.
  • Work cooperatively with all hospital personnel in accordance with hospital policy, regulations and standards.
  • Make a daily inspection tour of all mechanical, electrical and piping systems to determine if they are functioning properly. Adjust functional parts of devices and controls as required.
  • Perform a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and piping repairs, as well as the installation of new equipment as directed. This includes, but is not limited to pumps, fans, motors, building systems, pneumatics, wheelchairs, beds.
  • Complete preventive maintenance work order forms and repair work order forms, providing all information as instructed, so that accurate records of repair and maintenance performed, as well as materials used, are current and readily available.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean and orderly manner.
  • Perform duties as assigned by authorized personnel to meet emergency situations, or as dictated by hospital policy. This includes, but is not limited to, fire or bomb threat situations.
  • Attend all mandatory in-service programs, including monthly departmental meetings. Attend optional in-service and continuing education programs on a voluntary basis.
  • Assure significant information regarding department activities and concerns follow the appropriate channel of communications. Display respect for the opinions of others. Accept constructive criticism. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Communicate with other maintenance personnel, and as instructed , assist them in the performance of their duties. This would include such areas as refrigeration, carpentry, electrical.
  • Observe all sanitation and safety regulations as outlined in hospital policy or as good judgment dictates. Report to Director all unsafe or unusual acts or conditions observed within the hospital or support facilities.
  • Work holidays and shifts as scheduled.
  • Make recommendations to Director about how methods and procedures can be improved.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all shop equipment, so that parts can be fabricated and/or repaired.
  • Demonstrate dependability through good attendance and punctuality.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to meet customers' needs. Is willing to make extra efforts to meet customers with courtesy, respect and concern. Recognizes fellow employees as internal customers.
  • Operate the Siemans Building Automation system and equipment.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Two years medium or high pressure boiler plant experience preferred.
  • Two years experience in healthcare maintenance preferred.
  • General knowledge of email, Word and other common software programs preferred.
