The Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Prevention Program is dedicated to a critical mission: reducing and preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Through comprehensive initiatives, the program offers expert consultation and technical assistance, partner services, screening, and surveillance. Additionally, it focuses on educating healthcare providers, managing cases, and facilitating partner notification for reportable STDs for New Mexicans.

How does it get done?

This position will be responsible for:
1. Integrated Case Management: Our primary responsibility is to conduct comprehensive STD and HIV partner services, which includes in-depth case interviews that lead to timely testing and treatment for contacts. We streamline this process by conducting HIV and STD screenings, incorporating phlebotomy when necessary, and ensuring that newly diagnosed HIV cases are swiftly linked to appropriate care.

2. Thorough Documentation and Data Integrity: We prioritize the accurate and timely closure of STD and HIV partner services activities within the STD surveillance database. This includes meticulous documentation of all clinical interactions and referrals within our electronic health records (EHR) system, ensuring that all data is readily accessible and accountable.

3. Targeted Outreach Initiatives: Our outreach efforts are designed to engage high-risk populations across diverse venues. We implement integrated infectious disease outreach strategies that include street outreach, visits to detention centers, and partnerships with substance abuse treatment facilities. Additionally, we participate in LGBTQ Pride events and frequent local bars to foster connections and provide essential services to those at risk.

-Our ideal candidate boasts a minimum of three years of dedicated experience in the field of Infectious Diseases, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing public health.
-Exceptional communication skills are essential, as this role requires effectively conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
-Ideal candidates possess exceptional time management and task prioritization skills.
-At least three years of experience in public speaking, educational presentations, or health-related training, showcasing their ability to engage and inform others is encouraged.
-Proficiency in a variety of computer applications is crucial for efficient task management and data analysis.
-Experience in a public health setting, particularly with a focus on prevention strategies, is necessary.
-A history of collaboration with local communities to enhance access to healthy lifestyle opportunities.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ACT (HIPAA) course. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), and extensive personal computer and phone usage, and in communities, clinics, auxiliary site settings and in the homes of consumers to a diverse racial and ethnic population, many of whom do not speak English. Reaching and lifting a maximum fifty (50) pounds may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases. Travel to provide outreach and coverage at satellite offices, to attend meetings, training sessions, and special events with the occasional overnight stay is required.
