JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide students with knowledge and processes needed to begin their attainment of technological literacy and awareness of careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students gain knowledge and skills in the application, design, production, and assessment of products, services, and systems in a variety of areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide rigorous curriculum that aligns with Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) and Career & Technical Education (CTE) Course of Study.
  • Sponsors a Career Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO) and participates in at least one program-related competition per year.
  • Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled in the education setting.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the individual education service and transition plan for students enrolled in the education setting.
  • Instruct students in a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and policies and procedures of Birmingham City Schools.
  • Collaborate with teachers and others to provide instructions that are realistic in terms of current and future job specifications.
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with curriculum standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors.
  • Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.
  • Supervise and monitors student movement and escorts students to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, room changes and other activities in the building.
  • Maintains an environment which is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping, and student behavior.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferably in science, technology, math.
  • Must have a valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate in Agriscience Education, Business/Marketing Education, Career Technologies, Family and Consumer Science Education, Health Science, or Technical Education; or eligible for CTE certification; participate in CTE-TCP; must have or complete Certification add-on for Computer Science Discoveries.
  • Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirement or a willingness to meet the requirements within the designated timeframe.

Note: Employment experience gained in the private employment sector may be considered when filling specified positions, which are not traditionally in the education field, but include specialized training or certifications.
