JOB PURPOSE:
Provides customer oriented service to ensure patient safety, satisfaction and expedited flow in the stereotactic radiosurgery and radiation oncology department. Schedules procedures by coordinating multidisciplinary groups to provide timely care to patients. Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects of procedures for radiation oncology and gamma knife.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduation from accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three years of professional experience in medical field. Two years of experience in a hospital setting.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current licensure in the State of Georgia. Current BLS and, ACLS certification.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Oncology experience preferred. EMR and EPIC experience a plus. Must be able to make independent decisions but function well as part of a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages schedule for multidisciplinary brain and spine tumor clinics. Communicates with patients and providers to schedule consultations, follow up appointments, diagnostic procedures, and stereotactic treatments.
2. Provides comprehensive patient education.
3. Acts as a patient and visitor advocate. Intercedes on the patients behalf through communication with stereotactic radiosurgery/gamma knife, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, and neuro-oncology physicians and staff.
4. Attends weekly brain tumor conference and tracks care plan for patients at the direction of the physician team. Identifies ways to reduce delays.
5. Achieves and maintains proficiency in all aspects of gamma knife nursing including patient preparation, administration of conscious sedation, monitoring, and recovery.
6. Measures quality and outcomes and assists in the development of ongoing performance improvement programs.
7. Positively promotes department through outreach efforts, creation of educational materials, and public relations.
8. Completes all documentation in compliance with hospital, department and regulatory agencies in a timely manner. Performs additional administrative and nursing duties as assigned.

Superior skills in written and verbal and interpersonal communication.
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with patients, family members, visitors, and hospital staff.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and stress.
Ability to adapt to irregular schedules and an increasingly demanding volume of work..
Basic computer literacy and proficiency with electronic medical record documentation and with Microsoft Office applications.
