The role you'll contribute:

Under supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager or Sterile Processing Department Supervisor the Shift Supervisor Sterile Processing is responsible for coordinating all activities related to sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection for their assigned shift. Completes staff evaluations, monthly schedules, and performance improvement activities for the department. Helps oversee the orientation of new employees. Acts as a liaison between Central Services and other hospital departments to ensure availability of instrumentation and equipment as needed for patient care. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all

• Monitors sterilization practices to ensure all standards are met. Keeps accurate records of all sterilizer loads. Utilizes knowledge of sterilization parameters and takes corrective action if parameters are not met.

• Ensures safe work practices for all employees. Monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination

area. Promotes a safe environment. Takes appropriate action in emergency situations, and

practices awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees.

• Monitors work environment to ensure infection control standards are met. Ensures department is

cleaned daily. Monitors environmental controls (temp and humidity, air flow) and takes corrective

action as needed. Identifies and reports any other environmental concerns to the management

team.

• Acts as a liaison between all hospital departments that utilize Central Services to ensure needs of

the customer are met. Communicates with Surgery staff to ensure instrumentation is available as

needed for cases.

• Meets regularly with the Sterile Processing Manager to discuss the departments needs and

results of quality monitoring.

• Maintains competency by attending continuing education seminars related to Central Service

issues and attending in-services on new equipment and instrumentation in the department.

• Communicates with Vendors to promote compliance with the Vendor policy, reports non

compliance to the Sterile Processing Manager/ Director.

• Monitors sterilization equipment and delegates equipment as "out of service" when parameters

are not met, or validation testing fails. Assures that equipment is well maintained and BioMed is

called as needed.

• Assures that the Manufacture Instructions for Use (IFU) is closely followed for all equipment used

and instruments that are reprocessed.

Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Two years previous Sterile Processing, Surgical Tech experience, or Operating Room RN

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

• Central Service Tech Certification from HSPA or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
