Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

To be fully engaged in providing No Harm / Quality, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by providing support to the management team in the daily operation of the department and to ensure a high level of quality and efficiency from the Sterile Processing team.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Serves as an expert resource by effectively leading a multi-skilled team utilizing team-building and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disciplinary policies. Securely maintains confidential information, personnel files, supporting documents and all other personnel matters as required by law.
  • Assures that mandatory programs are completed by associates.
  • Coordinates resources: Interviews, hires and disciplines associates as appropriate.
  • Professional development of staff.
  • In-service training programs.
  • Assumes responsibility of the department in the absence of manager.
  • Guides associates to areas of production priority based on customer needs, work volume.
  • Ensure that there is adequate staffing for each shift. Administers housekeeping duties within the department.
  • Performs decontamination, proper assembly, wrapping, sterilizing and distribution functions of instrumentation and equipment within quality standards to meet daily case schedule at assigned facility as based on reported errors and/or instances of instruments not ready for case.
  • Knowledgeable of instruments.
  • Maintains and updates instrument count sheets, computer records, and manuals.
  • Discusses requests for changes with OR supervisor(s) and/or surgeons to provide for the most efficient use of time and materials.
  • Maintains adequate supply of backup instruments for the OR. Orders instruments as required through Contract and Supply Chain. Discusses requests for new or additional instrumentation with OR supervisor(s)/management or surgeons to ascertain specific needs and ensure efficient use of available instruments.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled meetings and committees as directed.
  • Demonstrates initiative combined with rapidity and accuracy with preparing supplies and instruments within a limited time frame.
  • Reviews department performance measures and educates department associates to meet goals.


Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certification from IAHCSMM preferred.
  • Must be able to read and write in the English language for effective communication and record keeping.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable of computers
  • Sound organizational skills to include time management and problem solving.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Must be able to lift, turn, pull, and push equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift
  • Potential for exposure to biohazardous waste, and known or unknown diseases.
